Linguine in a sauce of roasted red peppers, new onions and tomatoes; sake-steamed clams with garlic and hot pepper.
The new onions and roasted peppers each added such rich sweetness to the sauce it was almost overkill. Luckily it contrasted nicely with the garlicky saltiness of the clams, and we had a nice meal.
I feel rather silly for eating in, however, as Hideaki both have the evening off. If we had the cash, we'd be out on the town, eating something nice and seeing what the city is like on a Friday night- we haven't been out together on a Friday in ages.
Oh well, a relaxing night at home is hardly going to kill us...

Another wonderful meal!!! It's nice to stay in on a Friday night isn't it?

It is, especially when we're not working (my husband works evenings at home, so our usual Friday nights aren't that fun).

Hi Amy,
I envy your lovely-looking linguine-clam dish; I've been wanting to make the white sauce version that I'm permitted to cook about once a year, but I might try your more tomatoey one. Did the clams taste come thru the sauce ok??

Looks as good as a restaurant meal to me! What a nice idea- a date at home! ;)

Baboo, the clams were actually a separate dish, flavoured simply with sake, garlic and red pepper. I really prefer clams in a white sauce, as I think rich tomato-based sauces can overpower them. You should stick to your usual vongole sauce!
TM, we're doing a lot of "home dates" recently. It would be nice to get out of the house once in a while...
